The Sharing Economy aka the Gig Economy

stock-footage-senior-couple-surfing-on-internet-with-touchpadOlder adults are becoming more and more a part of the sharing economy, also known as the gig economy. The sharing economy allows you to share your skills or belongings with the larger community and make money. If you are capable in plumbing, carpentry, have extra room in your house or can rent out your car, you can join a company such as TaskRabbit.com or CollaborativeConsumption.com. These websites will help advertise your skills or space for rent. Many retirees are finding themselves with less money saved up for retirement and are turning to these companies to make some extra money. You can charge your own fees and make your own hours, however you will owe the service provider a percentage of your revenue for their service in getting you in touch with the community. All things considered, the sharing economy can be a great way to supplement your retirement income.
